Welcome to the Shawnee State University CyberTrek Wiki!
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
Create Your Own Wiki
CyberTrek will be exploring various Web 2.0 technologies during 2008-2009. We are using John D. Hendron's RSS for Educators: Blogs, Newsfeeds, Podcasts, and Wikis in the Classroom as our reference book. If you have not received your copy of the book , contact Barb Kunkle. We have a GroupTalk (discussion) page on LibraryThing for RSS for Educators. Go to http://www.librarything.com/groups/rssforeducators to participate.
In addition to this wiki, we also have a CyberTrek Blog at http://shawneefaculty.blogspot.com/.
Have you added your input to our progressive story? Click here to have your say.

Hey, Kevin,
Glad you could join us today! It would be good if all 22 CyberTrekkers would post to the wiki and to the blog at least one time before next week. What do you say?

I am pleased to be a part of CyberTrek. The presentation on Wiki was very informative and the enlightenment about Cell phone usage by Dr. Carlson was equally informative. I plan on lending some of my expertise to the group if needed. Please feel free to call upon me, should any of you run into a tech issue.

This is my first ever wiki post. Sorry to have missed yesterday's session. I do look forward to learning from all of you. My tech skills are 2 on a scale of 1-5, so I have a long way to go. I don't even know if I set up my profile correctly. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. (Mandy)

We are already behind. I just read that researchers in England are testing touchscreen desks for students. They function as combination whiteboards/keyboards/computers. Imagine what could be down with those.

AASL’s Longitudinal Survey Finds Surprising Information on School Use of Web 2.0
In the second annual “School Libraries Count!,” a longitudinal survey that provides data on the health of the nation’s school library media programs, AASL asked select questions on schools’ incorporation of Web 2.0 tools into the educational process. The data from the survey found that many school library media specialists and their teacher collaborators have implemented collaborative social networking tools in their instruction. Fifty-three percent of elementary, middle and high schools use some sort of collaborative tools to aid in instruction. Twenty-nine percent of schools use blogs as an instructional platform. The results demonstrate that social networking tools and technology are gaining acceptance as vital parts of the education of a 21st-century student. Results from the 2008 longitudinal survey will be available in early Fall 2008. The third annual survey is expected to open in January 2009.

To Ken's Comment: Microsoft has had a touch table top computer for about 2 years now. I saw it demonstrated when I worked at ATT. You can set your phone side by side with another cell and drag and drop your pictures, or any file for that matter, into their phone and vica versa Its called the Surface and this is the link if anyone is interested. http://technabob.com/blog/2007/05/29/microsoft-surface-interactive-touch-computing-tech-revealed/

True, Kevin, but is obscenely expensive. The one shown on CSI Miami is many thousands of dollars. The potential is great and it will be interesting to see how costs come down, as they surely well.

Paul, that is great! I think that Chris Meade is also experimenting? Perhaps we can discuss your experience in one of the November meetings.
